NASCAR K&N PRO SERIES EAST PREVIEW: SOUTH BOSTON SPEEDWAY

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (May 3, 2017) – The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (NKNPSE) will return to South Boston (Va.) Speedway for the first time in six years this Saturday, May 6. MDM Motorsports will field three entries in the WhosYourDriver.org twin 100 lap races at the short track, including the series most recent winner Harrison Burton.

Burton won the Zombie Auto 125 at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway in dominating fashion two weekends ago. Burton started from the pole and led 68 laps to earn the win and take over the NKNPSE point lead. Drivers Vinnie Miller and Travis Miller will join Burton as teammates this weekend.

South Boston Speedway is a 0.4-mile short track that hosted Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series racing until 1971, and both NASCAR XFINITY Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series competition until the early 2000’s. Burton and Travis Miller, tested at the newly-paved speedway last week to ease any uncertainties about the new surface. week. Testing went well and the team gathered valuable information regarding the new characteristics of the track.

This weekend, the NKNPSE will introduce a new race weekend format to help create excitement for the fans. Drivers and teams will compete in two separate 100-lap events on Saturday, both paying separate purses and points.

Harrison Burton, driver of the DEX Imaging No. 12… Burton will continue the family tradition this weekend when he climbs aboard his No. 12 DEX Imaging Toyota Camry at South Boston Speedway. Both his father, Jeff, and uncle, Ward, cut their teeth at the Virginia speedway before competing in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. Burton has scored three consecutive  top-five finishes to start the 2017 NKNPSE season, including the aforementioned win at Bristol Motor Speedway on April 22. He currently holds a 15-point lead over second-place in the NKNPSE standings.

It’s a place where my family got its  start in racing.  Now I get to continue that tradition of having a Burton competing there. Race number one of Saturday’s NKNPSE WhosYourDriver.org Twin 100s will begin at 7p.m., ET. Race number two will go green at approximately 9p.m., ET. Both events will be broadcast on NBCSN on Thursday, May 11 at 7p.m. and 8p.m., ET, respectively.
